Kayaking: #3 training with wind and other people

It is my third training towards the goal of doing the Pühajärve regatta, 5km fast kayaking. As I am used to longer distances, slower pace and calm river, it is now my challenge to feel comfortable with messy water, lots of people and distractions and also wind and tougher conditions.

Today gave that chance.

Windy, high time for all the kayakers to go on the river+small motor boats.

I did 4,5 km, my trainer commented that I have quite good pace, but I need to work on wasting my energy with the paddling technique (I pull the paddle to long behind me, the stroke should finish when it reaches the body). Time was not so good, ca 40 minutes for that distance.

Here you can see the proper technique

There is hope that I can get to the sea this week. Can’t wait.
